Vaginal Revitalization Q & A
What is vaginal revitalization?
Vaginal revitalization is a treatment that helps restore vaginal health. Hormonal changes that occur when you have children or during menopause affect vaginal tissues and may cause a variety of symptoms, including:
- Vaginal laxity
- Vaginal dryness
- Decreased sexual arousal
- Stress urinary incontinence
- Loss of tone of your labia majora
These symptoms not only cause physical discomfort but may affect your intimate relationships and your social life.
Dr. Hudson offers noninvasive, nonhormonal treatments to help restore and revitalize vaginal health.
What treatments are available to improve vaginal health?
Dr. Hudson uses ThermiVa® to improve vaginal health. ThermiVa is a nonsurgical tool that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten vaginal tissue and stimulate the production of collagen, which is a protein that improves vaginal strength and tone. The energy produced by ThermiVa also increases blood flow to the area, which may help improve vaginal lubrication.
What can I expect during treatment with ThermiVa?
ThermiVa is a noninvasive, nonablative, pain-free procedure Dr. Hudson performs right in the office without the need for anesthesia. It can be used to treat both external and internal genitalia.
During treatment, Dr. Hudson applies the radiofrequency energy to your genitalia and the heat from the wand gently injures the tissue to stimulate its natural healing properties, while at the same time denaturing the collagen protein, causing it to contract and tighten the skin.
There’s no downtime following treatment with ThermiVa, so you can go right back to your usual activities when you’re done. Dr. Hudson may recommend you refrain from vaginal intercourse and the use of tampons during the healing process.
How does vaginal revitalization help my incontinence?
If you’re experiencing urine loss due to stress urinary incontinence, then you may benefit from vaginal revitalization treatment with ThermiVa. Stress urinary incontinence is when a physical activity, such as a sneeze or cough, causes you to lose urine. Weakened pelvic and urinary sphincter muscles are usually the cause of stress urinary incontinence.
ThermiVa tightens the vaginal tissue, which may help give you more control and support over your pelvic and urinary sphincter muscles to reduce urine loss.
